L’Internet Horror Movie Database (iHORRORdb) ha pubblicato una lista di oltre 170 film horror che trattano Halloween e che potete raggiungere a questo link: List of 100 Halloween Horror Movies. I film possono essere ordinati anche per data di release o per ordine alfabetico.
Sul sito sono stati citati non soltanto titoli prettamente incentrati sulla Notte delle streghe ma anche tutti quelli in cui il 31 ottobre funge da scenario d'apertura per lo svolgimento o per la conclusione della storia, o come contorno di essa. Nell'elenco rientrano anche alcuni film che non trattano Halloween ma che sono caratterizzati da un'atmosfera molto suggestiva che ben si sposa con lo spirito macabro della ricorrenza di fine ottobre (un esempio è la saga Pumpkinhead).
L'elenco è in costante aggiornamento e raccoglie lungometraggi e cortometraggi (anche inediti in Italia), non tralasciando i titoli del circuito indipendente (Jack Attack), amatoriale (Doll Killer) e nemmeno i segmenti dedicati ad Halloween e che fanno parte di antologie horror (episodio "10/31/98" di Radio Silence dell'antologia V/H/S, oppure quello in Holidays).
Nella lista spuntano film degli anni '70 come The Clown Murders (1976) diretto da Martyn Burke, poi l’attenzione cade sulla celebre saga Halloween il cui primo capitolo, Halloween – La notte delle streghe, risale al lontano 1978 ed è il primo di una lunga serie. A questo infatti si affiancano la saga di Rob Zombie (una sorta di prequel-remake) e quella di David Gordon Green avviata nel 2018 con Halloween e a cui seguiranno, nel 2020/2021, i sequel Halloween Kills e Halloween Ends.
Dal 1976 al 2019 la lista si infittisce di titoli noti e non, inglobando anche film del 2019 come Haunt, Candy Corn e Scary Stories to tell in the Dark.
Tra le pellicole che vedono la notte delle streghe come punto centrale e di sviluppo per una storia horror citiamo La vendetta di Halloween (Trick’r Treat) del 2007 e l'horror corale Tales of Halloween. Si passa al piacevole cortometraggio Jack Attack (USA – 2013) di Bryan Norton e Antonio Padovan ma ce ne sono tanti altri.
Se amate le storie sui demoni è impossibile non segnalare Morte a 33 giri, La notte dei demoni di Kevin S. Tenney e i suoi due sequel Night of the Demons 2 di Brian Trenchard-Smith e Night of the Demons 3. Da non dimenticare nemmeno La notte dei Demoni (USA – 2009) di Adam Gierasch, remake del film di Tenney del 1988.
Perfetto per la notte di Halloween anche Il Corvo, la cui storia è tratta dall’omonimo fumetto di James O’Barr. Dopo Il Corvo (1994) di Alex Proyas sono stati girati tre sequel ma solo il primo seguito ovvero Il corvo 2 di Tim Pope, rientra nello spirito di questo articolo insieme a quello del 1994.
Immancabile anche The Nightmare before Christmas (USA – 1993) di Henry Selick che, sebbene non sia un horror, è sicuramente consigliato per questa festività proprio per la sua magica atmosfera dark.
Oltre ai film sui demoni rientrano anche quelli sui serial killer (Halloween Killer), zombie (Zombie Nosh), tavola ouija (I am Zozo) e tanti altri.
Tra i diversi horror del 2020 a tema Halloween abbiamo inserito anche On Halloween, They Live Inside Us e The Good Things Devils Do.
