Dead Rising (2008), the celebrated survival horror video game developed by Capcom (which was followed by Dead Rising 2 in 2010 and Dead Rising 3 in 2013) and inspired by Romero's “Dawn of the Dead,” will be transposed to film.
Legendary Pictures will handle the production, while Sony Pictures Entertainment's Crackle channel will distribute it.
After initial distribution on the dedicated channel (Crackle) in the United States, it will move to video on demand and then to more classic distribution via home video and television through Content Media Corp.
Tim Carter will write the screenplay and will also produce along with Tomas Harlan, both of Contradiction Films, an independent production company that handled Mortal Kombat: Legacy.
The name of the director of the project Dead Rising is not yet known.
The story opens on a world struck by a terrible epidemic that turns humans into the living dead. To no avail is the vaccine to stop the spread of the infection, and everything suggests that it is a government conspiracy.
