What the Waters Left Behind is the title of the new film by Argentine brothers Luciano and Nicolás Onetti. After paying homage to the mystery genre with Deep sleep (review) e Francesca (link to news story) recreating a perfect atmosphere typical of the 1970s, the Onets make a new horror film by setting the story in Epecuén, an abandoned Argentine town. Epecuén was once an important tourist village (located near a lake), but in 1985 it was submerged due to a rare sessa event. Thirty years later, the waters receded revealing a devastated landscape.
Plot: Four young men from Argentina decide to travel to Epecuen to film a documentary. Once on location, they realize they are not alone. In fact, among those ruins lives a group of deranged people who do not seem to appreciate the presence of intruders.
The cast includes: Victoria Maurette, Victorio D'Alessandro, Mirta Busnelli, Pablo Guisa Koestinger and Chucho Fernandez.
What the Waters Left Behind will have its world premiere at the Sitges Festival.
