two-sisters-locandinaSu-mi (Su-Jeong Lim) and Su-Yeon (Geun-Yeong Mun), two sisters with lives that are anything but easy, after a stint in a psychiatric clinic, return home accompanied by their father, who is practically an absent and aloof figure in their lives. Also waiting for them in the luxurious cottage will be their stepmother Eun-Joo, a good housewife and very well-groomed in appearance, but whom the girls have never accepted given her unkind ways toward them. The young girls also have yet to supethe tragic death of their real mother. To top it all off there is a rather mysterious presence that is only visible from little Su-Yeon. But, is it all that simple?

This ghost-story, produced in South Korea, is tragic, distressing and, like all Oriental films, almost unbearably slow. If you don't like slow films, don't go and watch it, you'll risk boredom; on the contrary, this is a must-see treat.
Throughout the viewing of Two Sisters (2003), certainly does not lack tension, let alone chilling moments. It is a psychological horror film capable of gluing the viewer to the seat and at certain moments jolting him.
Remarkable ability to make a 115-minute film, shot almost entirely in one house and with only 4 actors, last without tiring the viewer.
Director Kim Ji-Woon, wanted to use colors that had not yet appeared in a Korean film, and the result was excellent, managing to reproduce warm and delicate colors.
The original title (Janghwa, Hongryeon) is the name of the ancient legend from where the film is based and translated means "Rose Flower, Red Lotus." Two sister was not the first film to bring this legend to the screen, there have been others before, such as the first film treatment, which to 1925.
The conclusion of this film is left to the viewer; there is no classic ending where everything is explained rationally so that those who are watching it only have to listen and see to understand. What conclusion is right or wrong could then be debated endlessly since everyone has their own ideas and their own way of interpreting the facts.
In any case, to understand the story more, watching the film once is not enough, so I recommend a second viewing.
Highly recommended!
