The official trailer for Trees Are Watching is now online. The psychological horror movie is written and directed by Iranian-Kurdish filmmaker Bahman Ghobadi (Half Moon, Turtles Can Fly) and stars Eva Green (Penny Dreadful, Nocebo).
The film will have its world premiere at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival on September 18.
According to TIFF's description, Ghobadi crafts his journey into horror through surreal sequences, phantasmagorical imagery, and moments that erupt into full-blown Grand Guignol spectacle. The festival also compares one of the film’s sequences to the American Final Destination franchise.
Blending ecological themes with elements of witchcraft, Trees Are Watching stars Eva Green as Darya, a writer obsessed with the spiritual significance of trees who returns to her hometown of Mardin with her deaf daughter. After moving into the former home of twin sisters she knew as a child, in an area devastated by deforestation, Darya begins to be haunted by a malevolent entity that takes the form of a wooden chair. The disturbing visitations bring back memories of the sisters and a mysterious witch, gradually taking a toll on Darya’s sanity.
The cast also includes Murat Yildirim, Lucas Akoskin, Zeynep Çamci, Eren Demir, and Ozlem Tas alongside Eva Green.
