Train to Busan, the acclaimed Korean zombie movie directed by Sang-ho Yeon in 2016, will hit Italian theaters for the first time, ten years after its original release.
The film will be released in theaters in 4K by Bim Distribuzione and Tucker Film starting September 2.
Following its world premiere in the Midnight Screenings section at the Cannes Film Festival, Train to Busan went on to become an international phenomenon, earning awards and nominations at more than fifty festivals. With the film, Sang-ho Yeon reimagines the zombie movie as a reflection on social inequality and solidarity in times of crisis, drawing on the legacy of George A. Romero's cinema.
The story follows Seok-wu (Yoo Gong), a financial manager who has grown distant from his daughter Su-an and decides to accompany her to Busan to visit her mother for her birthday. Shortly before departure, an injured young woman manages to board the train and quickly turns into a zombie, triggering an outbreak that spreads from car to car. Trapped aboard the train bound for Busan, the passengers must fight to survive as the infected close in.
The cast includes Yoo Gong (Squid Game), Dong-seok Ma, Woo-sik Choi, Yu-mi Jeong, Sohee, and Kim Soo-ahn.
