CG Entertainment brings to Italy Thelma (2018), a supernatural thriller-horror that tells the story of a girl with extraordinary powers. Directed by Joachim Trier (Family Secrets) this Norwegian film focuses on the life and repressed desires of the young protagonist whose name gives this Norwegian film its title.
Embellished with evocative images that oscillate between hallucinations and reality, Thelma racconta di un personaggio femminile timido e introverso, una figura fragile che, sebbene sia lontana da casa, sente il peso dell'oppressiva educazione familiare che l'ha marchiata indelebilmente. L'educazione ricevuta però entra in conflitto con desideri e pulsioni sessuali che affiorano con naturalezza e che, attraverso sogni suggestivi, esprimono e fanno riaffiorare la sua vera indole e il suo desiderio di libertà .
Thelma è una lenta discesa nella mente e nel cuore della protagonista che, in seguito a delle "crisi", scoprirà di avere un dono molto pericoloso. Consapevole e, allo stesso tempo, terrorizzata dalla sua "diversità ", la ragazza vive con ansia il suo stato, sebbene talvolta si lasci trasportare dal piacere della tentazione e della trasgressione. A questo proposito, in Thelma there are several lesbian skits that indicate the protagonist's sexual orientation, as well as several flashbacks that complement the story and the psychological profile of the characters.
In questa escalation di crescita interiore, soccombono l'educazione conservatrice (costante generatrice di conflitti interiori) ma anche la religione, qui intesa come unico mezzo in grado di contenere i poteri devastanti della ragazza. Nel film di Trier si fa spazio la consapevolezza di un'idea di felicità che nasce dalla libertà e dall'accettazione di se stessi al fine di regnare sul dolore e sulla debolezza umana.

Plot: Thelma (Eili Harboe) attends her first year of university in Oslo. Shy and reserved, the young woman befriends Anja (Okay Kaya), a student with whom she becomes enamored. Thelma is afraid of the feelings and strong sexual attraction she feels for her friend since they conflict with her religious upbringing. The tension that ravages her, however, causes her to lose control: erotic dreams and convulsions cause her to discover and manifest disturbing and uncontrollable powers that confront her with a very bitter truth.
In the cast of Thelma feature Eili Harboe, Okay Kaya, Ellen Dorrit Petersen, Ludvig Algeback, Vanessa Borgli, Henrik Rafaelsen, Vidar Fransson, Grethe Eltervåg, Ingrid Giæver, Steinar Klouman Hallert, and Anders Mossling.
Director Joachim Trier co-wrote the screenplay with Eskil Vogt.
