thewitchIn the avalanche of remakes, sequels, reboots and TV series, space is made for itself The Witch, a horror genre film about witchcraft, a theme not yet abused but definitely welcome. The first trailer was released these days by A24 along with the unmistakable poster you will find at the bottom of the article. The Witch will have its international premiere next month at the Toronto International Film Festival and will be released by 2016 at a date to be determined.

The film is written and directed by Robert Eggers, known in film circles more as a set designer, and the cast includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Ineson, Kate Dickie, Harvey Scrimshaw, Ellie Grainger, Lucas Dawson, and Julian Richings.

thewitch_posterNew England, 1630. A farmer is forced to abandon his plantation and move to another piece of land on the edge of an eerie forest said to be populated by witches. After the family arrives, strange events occur at the site including the death of animals and the withering of crops, to which is added the disappearance of a little girl, Thomasin (Anya Taylor-Joy), who will mysteriously reappear some time later. The locals suspect that the little girl is possessed by a spirit and accuse her of witchcraft. Thomasin will try to defend herself against the accusations but with devastating consequences.
