Last January, Jason Blum announced the development of a new film adaptation of the The Thing from Another World (Who Goes There?, 1938), a long story to which the 1951 film of the same name directed by Christian Nyby and the cult horror film The Thing (1982) by John Carpenter.
Last week, at the Fantasia International Film Festival, the latter revealed that the very Will collaborate on Universal Studios/Blumhouse project. but without specifying whether it will be a sequel, a prequel or a completely new film.
In 2018, an expanded and unpublished version of the the film of the same name under the title Frozen Hell and apparently the new The Thing will also be based on the additional chapters of John W. Campbell's celebrated literary work, for a comprehensive view from the science fiction author.
The first film adaptation of the short story the film of the same name thus dates back to 1951, with the eponymous title, while in 1982 John Carpenter directed the second transposition entitled The Thing. Instead, in 2011 Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. signed on to direct the prequel (The Thing).
