In the Official Selections for the category BEST SPECIAL EFFECTS of The Optical Festival 2017 four short films (Studded Nightmare, DaemonRunner, Avulsion, The Defiler) and the feature-length horror film Trauma.

Studded Nightmare (Canada - 2016) di Jean-Claude Leblanc. Studded Nightmare (aka Cauchemar capitonné), the winning film in the category "Best Short Film" al DarkVeins Horror Fest 2017, is produced and written by the director himself.
Trama: Jean-François (Sébastien Huberdeau) entra in possesso di una sedia sulla quale un uomo si è suicidato. Avulsion (Australia - 2017) scritto e diretto da Steven Boyle.
The special effects are by Steven Boyle Studio, a company that has done the FX for such films as Daybreakers, Predestination, Jungle, Guardians Of The Tomb, and most recently for Winchester.
Plot of Avulsion: A man reaches out to an escort who, endowed with an unusual gift, will allow him to unleash all his strangest and deepest fantasies on her.
In the cast: Erica Field and Cameron Hurry.

The Defiler (Finland - 2016) to be directed by Artturi Olavi Rostén. The screenplay is by Aku Salminen.
The Defiler is a violent short film, thick with splatter sequences and paying homage to 1980s action and horror cinema.
The protagonist of the story is the dangerous Greta "The Defiler" (Diana Ball), a woman who single-handedly makes her way through the evil city where decay reigns. What drives her to dismember and tear apart anyone who stands in her way is a pure feeling that elevates her above everything and everyone.
The cast includes Diana Ball, Sara Koiranen, Sini Sandman, Markus Harjula, Daniil Kozlov, Tito Tuononen, Junani Pennala, Tomi Tuominen, Pyry Sopenlehto, Joonatan Järvinen, Toni Kandelin, Kristian Aho, and Petri Aulin.
Special effects are by Ari Savonen, Minja Tuomisalo and Johanna Tuominen.

Trauma (Cile - 2017) scritto e diretto da Lucio A. Rojas (Perfidia, Sendero). Protagonista di questo rape&revenge fitto di dramma, violenza e crudeltà, è Andrea (Catalina Martin), una ragazza che raggiunge il Cile insieme alla sorella Camila (Macarena Carrere), l’amica Julia (Ximena del Solar) e alla cugina Magdalena (Dominga Bofill). Giunte a destinazione, le quattro turiste vengono aggredite brutalmente da un uomo e da suo figlio. Lo sfortunato e fragile gruppetto si rivolgerà così alla polizia locale ma senza avere l’aiuto sperato.
