We reveal below the Official Selections for the category BEST SHORT FILM of The Optical Theatre Film Festival 2017. Of the many films entered in this third edition of the Festival, the following five short horror films were chosen: Studded Nightmare, DaemonRunner, Marian, Avulsion and The Defiler.
The list of five finalist films competing for the award BEST SHORT FILM:
Studded Nightmare (Canada - 2016) by Jean-Claude Leblanc.
Studded Nightmare (aka Cauchemar capitonné) is produced and written by the director himself.
Plot: Jean-François (Sébastien Huberdeau) comes into possession of a chair on which a man has taken his own life. Once brought home and tried on, the man will experience terrifying nightmares intertwined with pleasurable erotic journeys that culminate in horrific visions of death. Terrified, Jean-François will try to get rid of the cursed chair.
In the cast: Sébastien Huberdeau, Maude St-Pierre, Dominique Arganese, Michel Lapointe and Jeremy Lacombe. Special effects are by Jean-Mathieu Bérubé, Carlo Harrietha and Lorie Hamel.

DaemonRunner (Australia - 2017) by Kiah Roache-Turner (Wirmwood - Road of the Dead).
Plot: A group of demon hunters will deal with a possessed girl. To save her and to send the invading demon back to hell, they will use a killer technology.
The screenplay of DaemonRunner is by the director himself in collaboration with Tristan Roache-Turner. Special effects are by Nick Nicolaou, Paul Katte, and Lisa Cotterill.
In the cast: Catherine Terracini, Nandalie Campbell Killick, Alex Jewson, Carmel Rose and Cain Thompson.

Marian (Philippines - 2017) by Brian Patrick Lim.
This is a short drama/horror film that sheds light on the story of little Marian (played by Johanah Basanta), a little girl pampered by her mother's love and, at the same time, terrorized by a creepy presence that roams the house. Between caresses and violence, Marian will try to look with other eyes at the reality around her.
Also in the cast are Astarte Abraham, Paw Aya Bugarin and Kyri Calica. The screenplay was written by director Brian Patrick Lim.

Avulsion (Australia - 2017) by Steven Boyle.
Gli effetti speciali sono della Steven Boyle Studio, compagnia che ha realizzato gli FX per film come "Predestination", "Daybreakers", "Jungle", "Guardians of The Tomb" e, recentemente, anche per "Winchester".
Plot of Avulsion: a man reaches out to an escort who, endowed with an unusual gift, will allow him to vent all his strangest and deepest fantasies on her.
In the cast: Erica Field and Cameron Hurry.
Director Steven Boyle also edited the screenplay.

The Defiler (Finlandia – 2016) di Artturi Olavi Rostén (Väkevä Hiki), attore, effettista e regista finlandese ("Synergia" e "Trans*").
Violent and thick with splatter sequences, this homage to 1980s action and horror cinema features Greta "The Defiler" (Diana Ball), a woman who, alone, will traverse a seedy city where decay reigns. Guiding her on a bloody path will be a pure feeling.
In addition to Diana Ball, the cast also includes Sara Koiranen, Markus Harjula, Daniil Kozlov, Tito Tuononen, Sini Sandman, Junani Pennala, Tomi Tuominen, Toni Kandelin, Pyry Sopenlehto, Joonatan Järvinen, Kristian Aho, and Petri Aulin.
Special effects are by Ari Savonen, Minja Tuomisalo and Johanna Tuominen while the soundtrack is by Tatu Aittamaa, Teemu Kilkki, Anton Froloff, Asko Lintunen, Kalle Rantakallio, Juuso Peltola and Karo von Rutenhjelm.
The screenplay was written by Aku Salminen.
