Below we reveal the Official Selections for the category. BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY of the third edition of the The Optical Theatre Festival. The finalists include the following horror short films: the Finnish The Defiler, the Turkish Black Ring, the Spanish Room for Rent and the Italian Cold Inside. These are joined by the British feature film Charismata.

The Defiler (Finland - 2016) directed by Artturi Olavi Rostén on a screenplay by Aku Salminen. This is an explosion of cinematic genres, a true ode to 1980s action and horror cinema.
Plot: The dangerous Greta The Defiler (Diana Ball) makes her way into the evil city where rot and squalor reign. Behind her only a long trail of death. What drives her to dismember and tear apart anyone who stands in her way is a precious feeling that elevates her above everything and everyone.

Black Ring (Turkey - 2017) by Hasan Can Dagli. The screenplay is by the director himself in collaboration with Cem Ozuduru (one of the screenwriters of Baskin – 2016) and Turgay Dogan.
In Black Ring, a group of mysterious people hold peculiar photo shoots in an abandoned structure.
The cast includes: Turgay Dogan, Dounia Jauneaud, Tolga Akman, Sait Erol and H. Yuce Eser.

Room For Rent (Spain - 2017) written and directed by Fernando Simarro.
After driving for hours, actress Aphrodite Bunny (La China Patino), decides to spend the night in a hotel. Welcoming her to her dusty old establishment is Lady Montalvo (Silvia Casanova), a kind, elderly lady who seems not to have received customers for some time.

Cold Inside (Italy - 2017) written and directed by Valerio Burli.
This Italian short film features a cleaning woman who, on a cold winter day, tidies up the rooms of the hotel at which she works. Behind her daily routine, however, lies a macabre secret.

Charismata (UK - 2017), a horror film that borders on Satanism written and directed by the duo of Andy Collier and Toor Mian.
The story's protagonist is Detective Rebecca Faraway (Sarah Beck Mather), a fragile woman who struggles to fit into the local police department, a place where bullying and intolerance reign. Things go from bad to worse when the policewoman begins researching a man suspected of being responsible for a series of heinous ritual murders. Lost in a vortex studded with death and Satanism, Rebecca will struggle to see reality with clear eyes.
