The first teaser trailer for The Ones Who Grieve is now online. Directed by Quarxx (Tous les dieux du ciel, Pandemonium), the violent French horror film explores religious fanaticism, madness, and isolation against a late 19th-century backdrop.
Produced by Transgressive Production and Kali Pictures, the film will have its North American premiere at Fantastic Fest on September 18, 2026.
Set on an isolated farm, The Ones Who Grieve centers on Zélie, a young woman living under the strict authority of her deeply religious father, Jacob. As a mysterious disease known as the "Black Veil" begins ravaging the surrounding countryside, faith and madness become increasingly difficult to separate. Trapped in an oppressive environment, Zélie must struggle to preserve her humanity and claim her freedom.
The cast includes Thierry Frémont, Zélie Rixhon, Isabelle Anciaux, and Jean-Baptiste Maunier.
The teaser offers a glimpse of the film's bleak and suffocating atmosphere, filled with religious imagery and disturbing visuals. The footage builds toward its striking final line: "If hell exists, it can't be worse than here."
