Set in 10th-century Iceland, the story of The Northman sheds light on Amleth, a young Viking prince who intends to avenge his father who was murdered many years earlier when he was just a child.
They complete the cast of The Northman: Willem Dafoe (Antichrist), Nicole Kidman (The Others), Anya Taylor-Joy (The VVitch) and Ethan Hawke (Sinister). They were joined by Claes Bang and Icelandic singer/songwriter/composer Bjork along with their daughter Ísadóra Bjarkardóttir Barney.
The script is by Robert Eggers and Icelandic writer/poet Sjón.
Mark Huffam, New Regency and Lars Knudsen (the producer of The VVitch, Midsommar, The Hereditary) instead appear in the production of the film.
Official synopsis: dopo l'assassinio del padre e il rapimento della madre, il giovane principe Amleth (Alexander Skarsgård) fugge dal regno insulare in barca, giurando vendetta. Due decenni dopo, Amleth è un berserker vichingo che fa irruzione nei villaggi slavi. Qui una veggente gli ricorderà il suo voto ovvero vendicare suo padre e salvare sua madre.
