These days New Line announced that Salem nights will be released on Max streaming during 2024.
It was scheduled for release in September 2022 and then in the spring of 2023, but after COVID-related post-production delays and the year-long silence into which this project has sunk, it has now come to the conclusion that Salem nights will not come to theaters as it is intended exclusively for the streaming video-on-demand service.
Salem nights (aka Salem's Lot) is the new film adaptation of Stephen King's novel of the same name. Produced by James Wan (Malignant) along with his Atomic Monster, Salem nights is written and directed by Gary Dauberman, director of Annabelle 3 (2019) and screenwriter of Annabelle, The Nun: The Calling of Evil, It and It: Chapter Two.
The cast includes Jordan Preston Carter (The Violent Heart), Nicholas Crovetti (Witch Hunt) and Cade Woodward (A Quite Place) who play Mark Petrie, Danny and brother Ralphie Glick, respectively. The latter, we recall, is one of the first kids turned into a vampire by Barlow.
Lewis Pullman (The Strangers: Prey at Night), on the other hand, is Ben Mears, the writer who reaches the small town Salem's Lot, Maine, to focus on his new novel. The place, however, is inhabited by a community of vampires, and the writer will try to convince a group of people to fight the dangerous beings.
The above actors are joined by Makenzie Leigh (James White), Bill Camp (Joker - 2019), Spencer Treat Clark (Glass), William Sadler (The Mist), Alfre Woodard, John Benjamin Hickey, and Pilou Asbæk.
Published in 1975, Salem's Lot (The Nights of Salem) is Stephen King's second novel. The work was later adapted in 1979 for Tobe Hooper's two-part TV miniseries. This was followed by Larry Cohen's The Vampires of Salem's Lot (1987) and Salem's Lot (2004), another TV miniseries directed by Mikael Salomon.
