The Italian trailer and poster for The Mortuary Assistant have been released. The horror movie is directed by American filmmaker Jeremiah Kipp (Painkiller, Black Wake, Slapface), who joined the project in 2022.
Distributed by Madison Pictures, The Mortuary Assistant will hit Italian theaters on September 3, 2026.
The film is a live-action adaptation of the first-person video game of the same name, developed by Brian Clarke of DarkStone, in which players take on the role of an inexperienced mortician and embalmer called in to cover an emergency shift at a funeral home.
With The Mortuary Assistant, Jeremiah Kipp brings the acclaimed video game to the screen while seeking to preserve its most distinctive elements: its claustrophobic atmosphere, the protagonist's isolation, and the increasingly blurred line between reality and hallucination.
The story follows Rebecca Owens, a young embalmer faced with an unusually high number of bodies to prepare at the River Fields mortuary. During her night shift, however, a sinister presence begins to make itself known. As the dead awaken and evil spirits torment her, Rebecca must find a way to confront the entities haunting the mortuary and the demons from her own past if she is to survive until morning.
The screenplay was written by Tracee Beebe and Brian Clarke. The cast includes Willa Holland, Paul Sparks, John Adams, Keena Ferguson Frasier, Mary Hungerford, Mark Steger, and Emily Bennett.
