Universal Pictures Home Entertainment Italy has set a new release date for the home video editions of The Lighthouse (USA - 2019). The film written and directed by Robert Eggers (The VVitch) will be available starting Nov. 11 (and no longer in October) in the formats DVD, Blu-ray and Special Edition Blu-ray with nearly 50 minutes of exclusive special content. The special Blu-ray edition also contains 4 special art-cards from the film.
Shot in 35mm black and white, The Lighthouse stars Robert Pattinson (Cosmopolis) and Willem Dafoe (Antichrist, Daybreakers - The Last Vampire), here as two lighthouse keepers on a remote and mysterious New England island in the late 19th century.
The screenplay is by Robert and Max Eggers.
Plot: Thomas Wake (Willem Dafoe) is the seasonal keeper of a lighthouse lost in the wilderness on an island buffeted by winds and storms in late 19th-century Nova Scotia, while Ephraim Winslow (Pattinson) is his young helper, volunteering for the four-week shift.
In time, the obsessions and madness of the two will take over, turning them against each other.
First presented at Cannes in the Directors' Fortnight section and later nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Cinematography category, The Lighthouse received several awards including the FIPRESCI Award.
In Italy, the film was not released in theaters but arrived directly on streaming platforms with Universal Pictures on May 19, 2020.
