Presented for the first time at Cannes in the section Directors' Fortnight and later nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Picture category, The Lighthouse is among the most anticipated films of the year. The film will be presented for the first time in an open public screening in Italy on July 25 at Lake Como Film Nights Festival.
From October 21 instead, The Lighthouse will be available on DVD and Blu-ray thanks to Universal Pictures Home Entertainment Italia.
The film festival Lake Como Film Nights takes place at Villa Erba in Cernobbio as part of the summer festival Villa Erba Open Air, special edition of Villa Erba's Culture Project for 2020. The Lighthouse will be shown on July 25 at 9:15 p.m. on the PANORAMA screen at Villa Erba in an Italian dubbed version with English subtitles thanks to the collaboration with Universal Pictures Italia.
Shot in 35mm black and white, The Lighthouse is written and directed by Robert Eggers (The VVitch) and stars Robert Pattinson (Cosmopolis) and Willem Dafoe (Antichrist, Daybreakers-The Last Vampire), here as two lighthouse keepers on a remote and mysterious New England island in the late 19th century.
The screenplay was written by Robert and Max Eggers.
Plot: Thomas Wake (Willem Dafoe) is the seasonal keeper of a lighthouse lost in the wilderness on an island buffeted by winds and storms in late 19th-century Nova Scotia, while Ephraim Winslow (Pattinson) is his young helper, volunteering for the four-week shift.
In time, the obsessions and madness of the two will take over, turning them against each other.
