As of October 21, 2020, The Lighthouse (USA - 2019) will be available on DVD and Blu-ray thanks to Universal Pictures Home Entertainment Italia.
Presented for the first time at Cannes in the section Directors' Fortnight and later nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Picture category, The Lighthouse received several awards including the FIPRESCI Award.
Shot in 35mm black and white, The Lighthouse is written and directed by Robert Eggers (The VVitch) and stars Robert Pattinson (Cosmopolis) and Willem Dafoe (Antichrist, Daybreakers-The Last Vampire), here as two lighthouse keepers on a remote and mysterious New England island in the late 19th century.
The screenplay is by Robert and Max Eggers.
Plot: Thomas Wake (Willem Dafoe) is the seasonal keeper of a lighthouse lost in the wilderness on an island buffeted by winds and storms in late 19th-century Nova Scotia, while Ephraim Winslow (Pattinson) is his young helper, volunteering for the four-week shift.
In time, the obsessions and madness of the two will take over, turning them against each other.
Italy, The Lighthouse was not released in theaters but, as of May 19, 2020, came directly to streaming platforms with Universal Pictures.
