Initially set for January 2023, the release date of the horror film The Last Voyage of the Demeter slips to August 11, 2023.
Written by Bragi Schut (Escape Room) and directed by André Øvredal (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, Autopsy), the Universal film The Last Voyage of the Demeter stars prolific Spanish actor Javier Botet (REC, The Mother, Don't Knock on That Door), here as Dracula.
The story of the film is inspired by Dracula (1897), Bram Stoker's Gothic novel, and takes its cue exclusively from the chapter Captain's Log Of the literary work.
The Last Voyage of the Demeter in fact sheds light on the voyage and massacre of the crew aboard the Demeter, the ship intended for the transport of private goods and which carried the coffin of the famous vampire from Transylvania to London. Having finally arrived near Whitby Harbour, the transport vehicle was now reduced to a wreck.
The film will detail the strange events that happened to the crew as they try to survive the ocean voyage, tormented and terrorized each night by a terrifying presence.
Neill Marshall (Dog Soldiers, The Descent - Descent into Darkness) was initially assigned to direct this project, which was announced a decade ago.
The film is produced by Brad Fischer, Mike Medavoy and Arnold Messer while the cast also includes Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones), Aisling Franciosi (The Nightingale), Corey Hawkins (The Walking Dead), David Dastmalchian, Jon Jon Briones, Stefan Kapicic and Nikolai Nikolaeff.
