The land forgotten by time | Movie review

In 1975, Kevin Connor directed The land forgotten by time (aka The Land That Time Forgot), a fantasy/adventure genre film based on the novel of the same name (1918) by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Given the success of The land forgotten by time, Kevin Connor was responsible for directing two other film adaptations of Burroughs' literary works: Center of the Earth: unknown continent and The men of the land forgotten by time (the latter is a sequel to the 1975 film).

The Land That Time Forgot offers a decent variation on the "lost world" theme, succeeding in its intent to give the viewer a pleasant hour and a half of entertainment. The first part, devoted to war, then gives way to the exploration of a remote, wild, almost idyllic place (were it not for the presence of prehistoric reptiles and dinosaurs). In this sense, The land forgotten by time well sketches a pleasant journey into the wilderness, a typical theme of the adventure strand in which a marked imagination and a nostalgic vintage feel come through.
Overlooking the mediocre special effects (especially those related to the creatures), this nice low-budget film by Kevin Connor gives the viewer a lighthearted hour that is a visual journey into a world far from technology and governed by the laws of nature. Of note is the appreciable ending with the volcano eruption.
