After the animal slasher Still Life (link to the news story here), we still continue to talk about animals and their mistreatment in The Herd, a horror short film with a clear vegan slant and presenting a strong social critique.
Written by Ed Pope and directed by Melanie Light (Switch), The Herd depicts the aberrant conditions faced by dairy cattle thus showing the horror of reality. The Herd was presented at Grimmfest 2014 and is presented as a brutal film with a very specific purpose. In fact, the tagline reads these words: You are a product.
Replacing the cattle are women who, confined in a sheepfold, will be mistreated and continually "impregnated" because they are destined exclusively for milk production. Among the victims is Paula (Victoria Broom) who, like the other girls, desperately dreams of escaping that pain-soaked place but will have to resign herself to her horrible situation.
The cast includes Victoria Broom, Pollyanna McIntosh, Dylan Barnes, Sarah Jane Honeywell, Jon Campling, and Charlotte Hunter.
Director Melanie Light also oversaw production of the film.
