With the official Italian poster of The Grudge (USA, Canada - 2020) the Italian release date has also been revealed. The new chapter of the saga will arrive in cinemas in our country on February 27, 2020, while it will debut in U.S. theaters on January 3 with Rated R.
Produced by Sam Raimi with his Ghost House Pictures and based on a screenplay penned by Jeff Buhler (Midnight Meat Train, Pet Sematary), this supernatural horror is written and directed by Nicolas Pesce, the director of The Eyes of My Mother and Piercing.
The film is the reboot of the American franchise The Grudge, whose first chapter (remake of the Japanese horror film Ju-on: The Grudge) is directed by Takashi Shimizu and stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, here as a social worker who moves to Japan for a cultural exchange.
According to what Nicolas Pesce revealed in an interview, the story of his The Grudge takes place simultaneously with that of Shimizu's 2004 film but in the United States. In fact, the main character is a policewoman (Andrea Riseborough) who moves to a new city in the United States. Here the woman will come across a seemingly inexplicable case that will lead her to a house dominated by "resentment."
In the cast of The Grudge: Andrea Riseborough (Oblivion, Mandy), Lin Shaye (Insidious), Demian Bichir (The Nun), John Cho (The Exorcist), Betty Gilpin, William Sadler (The Mist), Jacki Weaver, and Frankie Faison.
