The Green Inferno by Eli Roth (Cabin Fever, Hostel Hostel: Part II), the tribute film to Ruggero Deodato and his Cannibal Holocaust, had been announced in our theaters for September 5, a date then slipped for the 16th and finally for October 30, 2014 without, however, ever seeing the light of day in theaters. The reasons for the lack of distribution in both the U.S. and Italy still remain unknown.
By The Green Inferno had been lost track of until a couple of days ago, when Eli Roth himself announced in a video posted on his Facebook page that his film will be released in U.S. theaters thanks to Blumhouse Productions starting next September 25.
The story of Eli Roth's cannibal movie sees a group of American environmentalists reach the Amazon to prevent not only the extinction of a local tribe but also the destruction of the Amazon rainforest. Their plane crashes, however, and the boys are captured by the same indigenous people they had pledged to want to defend and who actually turn out to be cannibals.
The screenplay of The Green Inferno (USA - 2013) is by Guillermo Amoedo and director Eli Roth. The cast includes Lorenza Izzo, Ariel Levy, Aaron Burns, Kirby Bliss Blanton, Magda Apanowicz, Ignacia Allamand, Richard Burgi, Daryl Sabara, Nicolás MartÃnez, and Sky Ferreira.
The Green Inferno had its world premiere on September 7, 2013 at the Toronto Film Festival and was subsequently screened at several festivals including Sitges.
