David Gordon Green (Halloween, Halloween Kills, Halloween Ends) has dropped out of directing. The Exorcist: Deceiver, the sequel to The Exorcist: The Believer, a horror film about diabolical possession and the first film in the sequel trilogy to the The Exorcist (1973) which was released in Italian theaters last October.
Universal and Blumhouse have therefore suspended development of the film and are looking for a new director.
The Exorcist: The Believer (aka The Exorcist: Believer) is based on the novel of the same name by William Peter Blatty and was to be the first film in a trilogy directed by David Gordon Green, author of the hit saga Halloween dedicated to Michal Myers (Halloween, Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends).
Against a budget of $30 million, The Exorcist: The Believer grossed $120.3 million worldwide.
The history of The Exorcist: The Believer sheds light on two little girls possessed by an evil entity. Desperate for help, the father of one of the two (Leslie Odom Jr.) will ask for help from Mrs. Chris MacNeill (Ellen Burstyn), whose daughter Regan was possessed by Pazuzu many years earlier.
