The young Canadian, known for producing several films including the interesting and successful Antisocial of Cody Calahan (also handling the screenplay) wrote, produced and directed his fourth feature film, this time in the horror genre, involving Cody Calahan in the screenplay.
Chad Archibald's aim is to create a new villain to stand alongside the famous figures of horror cinematography. The trailer you will find below actually shows effective and very interesting sequences in which the monster haunting the protagonist is visible, but not only. The Drownsman
seems to pay homage to old 80s-90s horror films by cloaking itself in a charming retro style that will surely be appreciated by lovers of old-fashioned horror films.
The protagonist of the story is Madison, a girl who, following an accident in which she nearly drowned to death, begins to suffer from hydrophobia, thus developing a terror of water. Over time her obsessions and fears increase, amplified by the presence of a dark monstrous figure who constantly torments her. Frightened and terrified, Madison talks to doctors and her friends about it, but they all reassure her by attributing the cause of her nightmares and hallucinations to stress and assuring her that the monster tormenting her is a figment of her imagination. To reassure her, the girls devise a plan that will only make the situation worse, however.
