La Warner Bros. ha messo in cantiere l'adattamento cinematografico de The Divine Comedy, esattamente della prima cantica, ovvero l'Inferno. The film, entitled Dante's Inferno, ha già uno sceneggiatore, Dwain Worrell (Walking the Dead), che tra l'altro è anche l'ideatore del progetto.
Contrariamente a quanto succede nel poema, nel film, Dante percorrerà i nove cerchi dell'Oltretomba per salvare la sua amata Beatrice. Nella prima cantica in realtà Dante effettua il viaggio ultraterreno per raggiungere la salvezza e incontrerà Beatrice solo sulle soglie del Paradiso (terza cantica) dove lei diventerà la sua guida.
