Warner Bros. Italy has released the Italian teaser trailer for the La Llorona - The Tears of Evil (aka The Curse of La Llorona), the horror on the spectrum of Latin American folklore. The creature of legend takes the form of a woman's mourning soul who sheds eternal tears over losing her son (or being responsible for his death) and who, in search of it, emits chilling, heartbreaking screams.
Produced by James Wan (the creator of the Saw, Insidious and The Conjuring sagas ), La Llorona - The Tears of Evil Is directed by Michael Chaves.
Set in 1970s Los Angeles, the story of The Curse of La Llorona follows the story of Anna Garcia, a social worker forced to deal with a supernatural force that will terrorize her family and try to take her children. It is "La Llorona," a malevolent entity trapped between Heaven and Hell. Her fault was that she drowned her children in a fit of rage and jealousy and then threw herself into the same river. Now her tears are eternal and those who hear her deadly call at night will be doomed. La Llorona goes hunting for children in a desperate attempt to replace her own.
La Llorona - The Tears of Evil stars Linda Cardellini, Sean Patrick Thomas, Patricia Velasquez, and Raymond Cruz.
The screenplay for the film is by Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis.
Over the years, several horror films have been made dedicated to the legend of the "weeping woman" including the Mexican La Llorona (1933) by Ramón Peón and La Llorona (1960) by René Cardona.
