After directing the first two chapters of the franchise The Conjuring, James Wan hands over the direction of the new sequel to Michael Chaves. The director came to Wan's attention with the short film The Maiden and, subsequently, with The Curse of La Llorona, a supernatural film that will debut in U.S. theaters in 2019.
The Conjuring 3 sarà ambientato nella Los Angeles del 1973 e vedrà protagonista un'assistente sociale (Linda Cardellini) che troverà delle affinità tra un caso a cui sta lavorando e gli eventi sovrannaturali che affliggono la sua famiglia.
The creators of the saga, Peter Safran and James Wan, will return to this project as producers while Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will return as the paranormal investigators.
David Leslie Johnson also, the co-writer of The Conjuring - The Enfield Case, will be in charge of the screenplay of The Conjuring 3.
The filming of The Conjuring 3 will be launched in 2019 while the release is expected in 2020.
Questo sequel non è l'unico progetto in sviluppo dell'universo The Conjuring. After The Nun - The Calling of Evil (film uscito lo scorso settembre e che ha segnato il record di incassi del franchise), nel 2019 è previsto l'arrivo nelle sale di Annabelle 3 (filming will start this fall).
New Line Cinema is also working on The Crooked Man, a project already announced in 2017.
