Distributed by CG Entertainment, the cult The Church (Italy - 1989) arrives in a new Blu-ray edition packed with extras for the Cinekult series. Directed by Michele Soavi (Deliria, Cemetery Man) based on a screenplay he co-wrote with Dario Argento and Franco Ferrini, this spectacular Italian horror film will also be available on DVD from the August 30, 2018.
Plot: In the Middle Ages, an army of Teutonic Knights exterminates villagers because they are accused of witchcraft. The mass grave collecting the corpses is sealed with a huge stone cross on which a cathedral will later be erected. Only a little girl escapes the massacre.
Centuries later, librarian Evan (Tomas Arana) is assigned to catalog the manuscripts of an ancient church in the heart of a German town. There he will befriend restorer Lisa (Barbara Cupisti) and Lotte (Asia Argento), the sexton's daughter. Gradually, however, the man will become convinced that the cathedral conceals a horrible and diabolical secret linked to ancient blood events.
