The Bye Bye Man | Movie Review

The Bye Bye Man (USA - 2016), the film about the malevolent entity directed by Stacy Title (Hood of Horror) and produced by Trevor Macy and Marc D. Evans (Oculus - The Reflection of Evil, The Strangers), offers a variation of the boogeyman, a horror character to whom, in 2014, the valid Babadook By Jennifer Kent.
In The Bye Bye Man, the malevolent entity is represented by a pale, hooded longish figure accompanied by a kind of monstrous hellhound. This being, which has roots in a terrifying urban legend, has the power to rule the mind of those who summon it.

The-Bye-Bye-Man-01
Three college friends discover that to avoid the curse of the "Bye Bye Man" (played by Doug Jones) there is only one way: one must not think of him or speak his name. Managing one's thoughts, however, will not be easy, and the evil entity will manage to creep into the minds of its victims and then haunt and torment them.

An icy and diabolical figure, the Bye Bye Man surprises by the treatment to which he subjects his prey. In fact, his modus operandi represents the heart of this horror film, becoming a powerful fulcrum that sets the story in motion. The dark presence, the dispenser of terror and torment, creeps like a woodworm into the minds of the unfortunate protagonists, muddying their thoughts and taking over their reason. With the reins of their lives on a leash, it hurls them into a world of hallucinations passing it off as reality, where, terrified and confused, the protagonists lose themselves in a spiral of madness.

In The Bye Bye Man the sense of anguish and dread slowly propagate to a claustrophobic situation in which the viewer feels sucked in. In this sense, the film provides a good deal of suspense. The entity appears little, yet its nefarious repercussions triggered by the curse make its presence fixed.
An amazing film that manages to engage the audience throughout its duration.

The cast includes: Doug Jones (Quarantine, Hellboy, The Faun's Labyrinth), Carrie-Anne Moss, Douglas Smith (Santa's Slay), Faye Dunaway (Eyes of Laura Mars), Cressida Bonas, Michael Trucco (Wishmaster 4), Lucien Laviscount and Erica Tremblay.
