The first details have surfaced for the new The Blair Witch Project movie, although the reboot's official plot is still being kept under wraps.
The new installment is directed by Dylan Clark (Portrait of God) from a script by Chris Devlin and, according to Deadline, will follow a family on a camping trip whose members begin mysteriously disappearing one by one after hearing strange noises coming from the woods.
No additional plot details have been revealed at this time.
Jason Blum for Blumhouse and James Wan for Atomic Monster are producing alongside Roy Lee and Divide/Conquer's Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath.
The project also involves original Blair Witch Project creators Eduardo Sánchez and Daniel Myrick, producer Gregg Hale, and actors Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams, all serving as executive producers.
Williams recently clarified that the film will not be a remake, suggesting a different approach rather than a straightforward retelling of the original cult classic.
Filming is expected to begin this fall with a reported budget of around $10 million.
Released in 1999, The Blair Witch Project followed three film students who vanished in the Maryland woods while shooting a documentary about a local legend. Made on a budget of around $60,000, the film went on to gross more than $248 million worldwide, becoming one of the most famous and influential found footage horror films ever made.
