FAVORITE AND CLOSE - When it was made known that Imagine Entertainment, Universal Pictures and NBC Universal Television Entertainment have entered into a collaboration to bring to life a new franchise based on the novel series The Black Tower by Stephen King, many fans of the literary series immediately wondered "who will play the role of Roland Deschain?" In this regard, Ron Howard, designated director for the first chapter of the project, revealed that so many fans would like to see Viggo Mortensen for the part, but it appears that the production is targeting another high-caliber professional who, at present, seems very close to getting the role: Javier Bardem. To update us on the pre-production status of the The Black Tower was the producer Brian Grazer who, in an interview with MTV, he revealed:
"We hope [that the lead actor] Is Javier Bardem. We are really trying to bring everything together now, at this very moment. Let's say Bardem is psychologically ready for the role. He would really like to participate, so we are preparing all the details so that he will be the one to do it".
The fact that Bardem has expressed a desire to play Roland in the new franchise of The Black Tower automatically makes him the top candidate for the position, but we are still far from a "final contract." As is already known, the "The Black Tower" will contain as many as six episodes, three film and three television, which will alternate providing continuity to the story. Obviously Roland will have to be played by the same actor on both the big and small screen, a commitment not to be underestimated that would require years of collaboration, reasoning that it will take some time before production and Javier Bardem come to an agreement (assuming they do).
If no unforeseen events arise, the first film of the The Black Tower Will debut on May 17, 2013.
