Sergio G. Sanchez, the screenwriter of The Orphanage (2007), makes his directorial debut with Marrowbone (Spain - 2017), a supernatural thriller/horror film for which he also wrote the screenplay. It stars Anya Taylor-Joy, the young actress who gave a brilliant performance in the witchcraft film The Witch and whom we also recently saw in the fantasy-horror Morgan and in the thriller Split.
The story of Marrowbone features five orphaned siblings grappling with a sinister presence.
Plot: In order to stay together and not end up in an orphanage, a boy and his four younger siblings have kept their mother's death a secret. The young family, however, begins to be terrorized by a malevolent presence that seems to have laid siege to their country home.
The film is in post-production. Currently only the Spanish release date, set for October 27, 2017, is known.
The cast includes Anya Taylor-Joy, George MacKay, Mia Goth, Charlie Heaton, Kyle Soller, Robert Nairne, Matthew Stagg, Nicola Harrison, and Laura Brook.
J.A. Bayona, the director of The Orphanage, is one of the executive producers.
