Stonehearst Asylum is the replacement title for Eliza Graves, a horror thriller genre film directed by Brad Anderson (Session 9, The sleepless man, Vanishing on 7th Street).
The screenplay is by Joe Gangemi while the story is based on. The system of Dr. Tar and Prof. Feather (The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether.), a short story by Edgar Allan Poe already adapted for the screen in several films including the short film (Le système du docteur Goudron et du professeur Plume) directed by Maurice Tourneur in 1913 and also The Mansion of Madness by Mexican director Juan López Moctezuma (Alucarda) in 1973.
England 1899. The story centers on Edward Newgate (Jim Sturgess), a graduate of Harvard Medical School, who agrees to work in an asylum (the Stonehearst Asylum precisely). At the institution Edward is welcomed by Dr. Lamb (Ben Kingsley) and the attractive Eliza Graves (Kate Beckinsale). Edward is fascinated by the methods used by the doctor to treat his patients, but once settled inside the clinic, the newcomer will find that the occupants are behaving strangely, unusually, and also very dangerously.
In the cast of Stonehearst Asylum, in addition to the aforementioned big names such as those of Jim Sturgess, Ben Kingsley, and Kate Beckinsale, there are as many notable actors such as Brendan Gleeson, Michael Caine, David Thewlis, and Jason Flemyng.
The film is scheduled to be released this fall on Oct. 24 by Millennium Entertainment.
