The first official image of Smiley Face Killers, the slasher film inspired by real events directed by Tim Hunter (Looking Glass - Beyond the Looking Glass) and starring Crispin Glover, here as a bald, disfigured character.
Smiley Face Killers will be available on video-on-demand platforms and in DVD/Blu-ray formats (U.S. market) starting December 8, 2020 with Lionsgate.
Plot: Mysterious drownings of college students plague the California coast. Young Jake Graham (Ronen Rubinstein), on the other hand, tries to move on until he realizes he is being pursued by a hooded figure (Crispin Glover) driving a van. Unable to shake the feeling that he is being pursued by someone or something, the student will fear becoming the next victim of the killers who have brought the city to its knees.
The screenplay of Smiley Face Killers is edited by Bret Easton Ellis, an American writer and screenwriter, best known for the novel American Psycho (1991). The make-up effects on Crispin Glover, on the other hand, were done by effector Vincent Guastini.
The cast includes Crispin Glover (Back to the Future, Paranoid Willard), Ronen Rubinstein (The Hate Killer), Mia Serafino, Amadeus Serafini, Ashley Rickards, Garrett Coffey, Cody Simpson, Daniel Covin, and Rachel Crowl.

I have great doubts about the appropriateness of making a true horror film about a real, chilling, unsolved story. Even with all the changes they will have made I cannot help but find it an operation that easily descends into the morbid.
