This month, three horror movies are set to hit Italian theaters: Jeremiah Kipp's The Mortuary Assistant (September 3), Zach Cregger's Resident Evil (September 17), and Nicolas Winding Refn's violent horror thriller Her Private Hell (September 30).
Below you can find more information about each movie, along with the Italian posters and trailers.
September 3: THE MORTUARY ASSISTANT
Directed by American filmmaker Jeremiah Kipp (Painkiller, Black Wake, Slapface), The Mortuary Assistant will hit Italian theaters on September 3, 2026, through Madison Pictures.
The film is a live-action adaptation of the first-person video game of the same name, developed by DarkStone's Brian Clarke, which puts players in the role of an inexperienced mortuary assistant and embalmer called in to cover an emergency shift at a funeral home.
With The Mortuary Assistant, Jeremiah Kipp brings the popular video game to the big screen while seeking to preserve its most distinctive elements: the claustrophobic atmosphere, the protagonist's isolation, and the increasingly blurred line between reality and hallucination.
The story follows Rebecca Owens, a young embalmer who finds herself dealing with an unusually high number of bodies at the River Fields mortuary. During the night shift, however, strange phenomena begin to disrupt her work: the dead appear to awaken, while sinister entities start tormenting her. To survive until morning, Rebecca must confront the forces haunting the mortuary while also facing the demons of her own past.
The cast includes Willa Holland, Paul Sparks, John Adams, Keena Ferguson Frasier, Mary Hungerford, Mark Steger, and Emily Bennett. The screenplay was written by Tracee Beebe and Brian Clarke.

September 17: RESIDENT EVIL
On September 17, Eagle Pictures will bring Resident Evil to Italian theaters. The horror movie is directed by Zach Cregger, the filmmaker behind Barbarian and the recent Weapons.
Written by Cregger and Shay Hatten, Resident Evil is based on Capcom's iconic video game franchise and marks the second reboot and the eighth installment in the film series.
Unlike previous film adaptations, the new Resident Evil tells an original story, independent of the continuity of the earlier movies while remaining rooted in the atmosphere and elements of the early games. In several interviews, Zach Cregger has explained that his goal is not to faithfully recreate the games'storylines, but rather to capture the feeling of playing them.
The story of this new chapter follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a courier tasked with delivering an important package who finds himself caught in a viral outbreak that transforms people into monstrous creatures, forcing him to fight for survival over the course of a single night.
The cast includes Austin Abrams, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser.

September 30: HER PRIVATE HELL
Her Private Hell, the violent horror thriller directed by Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive, Only God Forgives) and starring Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets), will hit Italian theaters on September 30 through Mubi.
The film has received an age restriction for unaccompanied minors due to "strong violence, including bloody violence, sexual content, and explicit language".
Plot: Elle returns to her father Johnny Thunders' mansion, where she meets Hunter, a young starlet seeking success, and Dominique, her young stepmother. Johnny, an enigmatic man with a taste for vice, tells them the legend of Leather Man, a seemingly unstoppable demonic entity that emerges from the fog to murder young women. After witnessing a killing committed by the mysterious creature, Elle prepares to confront it.
The cast also includes Charles Melton (Riverdale), Kristine Froseth, Havana Rose Liu (No Exit), and Diego Calva (Babylon). Rounding out the cast are Dougray Scott (Hitman), Aoi Yamada (Perfect Days), Shioli Kutsuna (Deadpool & Wolverine), and Hidetoshi Nishijima (Shin Ultraman).
The screenplay was written by Nicolas Winding Refn and Esti Giordani, while the score was composed by acclaimed Italian composer Pino Donaggio, known for his work on Don't Look Now, Carrie, The Howling, and many other genre movies.
