Eagle Pictures has just released, online, the official trailer for Scream (USA - 2022), the fifth installment of the famous horror/slasher saga started in 1996 by Wes Craven.
The film is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (the directors of Ready or Not) on a screenplay by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) and Guy Busick (Castle Rock).
Scream will debut in Italian theaters on Jan. 13 distributed by Eagle Pictures.
The film benefits from the presence in the cast of some of the saga's historic actors such as Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox, still in the roles of Sidney Prescott, deputy sheriff Dewey Riley and journalist Gale Weathers, respectively.
The cast is completed by Jack Quaid, Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Dylan Minnette, Mikey Madison, Mason Gooding, and Marley Shelton (Scream 4). The latter again in the role of Judy Hicks.
Plot of Scream (2022): Twenty-five years after the series of heinous and cruel murders that rocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer in a Ghostface mask targets a group of teenagers. Because of him, fears of a past that seemed buried will resurface plunging the city into terror.
William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein are the producers of the film along with Radio Silence, a trio consisting of Chad Villela and the aforementioned directors Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.
Kevin Williamson, on the other hand, the historic creator/writer of the franchise, appears on the crew as an executive producer.
Last month, in an interview with Drew Barrymore (who appeared in the first Scream), Courteney Cox clarified the nature of the sequel: "It's not a reboot. It's not a remake. It's just a new movie." This was reported by Collider.
Directed by Wes Craven, Scream (1996) is the first film in the saga consisting of four chapters. It stars Sidney Prescott, a girl haunted by a psychopathic serial killer who wears a Halloween costume (Ghostface).
