It will be titled simply Scream the fifth installment of the famous horror/slasher saga started in 1996 by Wes Craven. Announcing it via a message on Twitter was Kevin Williamson himself, the historic creator/screenwriter of the franchise, here serving as executive producer.
Kevin Williamson also confirmed the completion of the filming of the new movie which he says he is really excited about and added: "I think Wes would have been proud of the film that Matt and Tyler are making. I am delighted to be reunited with Snow, Courteney, David and Marley and to be working alongside a new team of directors and actors who have come together to continue Wes's legacy with the upcoming revival of this franchise that is so close to my heart“.
Written by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) and Guy Busick (Till Death Do Us Part, Castle Rock), Scream is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the directors of Ready or Not.
The new installment of the franchise continues the story conceived by Wes Craven, and in the iconic role of Sidney Prescott there will again be Neve Campbell. The Canadian actress will star alongside two other main actors from the saga namely David Arquette and Courteney Cox, who will play deputy sheriff Dewey Riley and journalist Gale Weathers, respectively.
The three actors are joined by Jack Quaid, Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Dylan Minnette, Mikey Madison, and Mason Gooding.
William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein are the producers of the film along with Radio Silence, a trio consisting of Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett and Chad Villela.
Scream 5 will be released in 2021 through Paramount Pictures.
Directed by Wes Craven, Scream (1996) is the first film in the saga consisting of four chapters. It stars Sidney Prescott, a girl haunted by a psychopathic serial killer who wears a Halloween costume (Ghostface).
