Attached to this article is the official trailer of Sadako (Japan - 2019), the new horror film directed by Hideo Nakata, the director of Ring (1998), Ring 2 (1999) e Dark Water (2002).
Sadako is the new chapter in the saga dedicated to the vengeful spirit of the cursed VHS and which was started in 1998 with Ring (aka Ringu).
Sadako marks the return of the ghostly and terrifying Sadako Yamamura, the demon girl from the novel Ring by Kōji Suzuki that inspired Hideo Nakata's film of the same name.
Plot: Jinko (Himeka Himejima) is miraculously saved from a fire set by her mother because the latter was convinced that the girl was the reincarnation of Sadako. Suffering from amnesia, Jinko is admitted to the Tokyo Psychiatric Hospital where she will attract the attention of psychologist Mayu Akikawa (Elaiza Ikeda), who will immediately become attached to her.
Meanwhile, YouTuber Kazuma (Hiroya Shimizu), Mayu's brother, attempts to revive Sadako's curse with the aim of gaining more views online but disappears without a trace. Concerned about the numerous supernatural events that link her new patient to Sadako's curse, Mayu sets out to find her brother.
Two sequels were filmed in Japan (Spiral and Ring 2) and a prequel (Ring 0: Birthday) of Ring. In 2012, however, the spin-off Sadako 3D accompanied by the sequel Sadako 3D 2 while 2016 saw the creation of the crossover Sadako VS Kayako.
Also Ring had a U.S. remake titled The Ring (2002), a remake flanked by two sequels.
In the cast: Himeka Himejima, Elaiza Ikeda, Ren Kiriyama, Hiroya Shimizu, Rie Tomosaka, and Takashi Tsukamoto.
The film will premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival this month.
