Distributed by CG Entertainment for Mustang Entertainment, the film is available on DVD and Blu-ray from November 6, 2018. Special contents of the Blu-ray edition collect the trailer and interviews with Yorgos Lanthimos, Nicole Kidman, Colin Farrell, Barry Keoghan, Raffey Cassidy, and Sunny Suljic.
Drawing from the classical authors of Greek tragedy (the film takes up the Iphigenia in Aulis by Euripides), Lanthimos directs an original thriller that focuses on portraying the modern family and bringing to light distortions and cracks.
Plot of The Sacred Deer Sacrifice: Steven (Colin Farrell) is a renowned cardiothoracic surgeon and lives a quiet life with his wife Anna (Nicole Kidman) and their two children, Kim (Raffey Cassidy) and Bob (Sunny Suljic). One day the man meets Martin (Barry Keoghan), a lonely 16-year-old boy who has recently lost his father. The doctor decides to take care of the boy and introduces him to the family. Soon after, however, increasingly disturbing events begin to occur that will destroy family harmony and force the surgeon to make a terrible sacrifice in order to avoid the risk of losing everything.
The cast includes Raffey Cassidy, Colin Farrell (Fright Night - The Vampire Next Door), Nicole Kidman (The Others), Barry Keoghan, Barry G. Bernson, Sunny Suljic, Bill Camp, Alicia Silverstone, and Denise Dal Vera. Yorgos Lanthimos and Efthymis Filippou wrote the screenplay for the film.
Awarded at the 70th Cannes Film Festival for Best Screenplay, The Sacrifice of the Sacred Deer (UK, Ireland, USA - 2017) made its Italian cinema debut on June 28, 2018, thanks to Lucky Red.
