Sony Pictures Italia has released the Italian teaser trailer for Resident Evil, the new horror film directed by Zach Cregger, known for Barbarian and the recent Weapons.
Co-written with Shay Hatten, Resident Evil draws from the iconic video game series created by Capcom and marks a fresh reboot, the eighth entry overall in the long-running film franchise.

Unlike the previous films, this new take tells a completely original story, separate from earlier continuity and inspired by the early entries in the game series.
The Italian release is set for September 17, 2026, through Eagle Pictures.

In several interviews, Zach Cregger has made it clear that his goal isn't to faithfully recreate the games' plot, but rather to capture how they feel. As he told The Playlist, he's not aiming to strictly follow the series' mythology, instead focusing on telling a story that reflects the experience and atmosphere of playing the original titles.
At the same time, he appears intent on bringing that same "weird" and unsettling edge seen in his previous work into Resident Evil, pushing the franchise into new territory rather than simply revisiting familiar moments from the games.

The story of this new chapter follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a courier tasked with delivering a crucial package who finds himself caught in a viral outbreak that turns people into monstrous creatures, forcing him to fight for survival over the course of a single night.

The cast includes Austin Abrams, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser.
