Universal Pictures has released, online, the new Italian trailer for the horror comedy Renfield (USA - 2023), a modern-day reinterpretation of the eponymous character featured in Bram Stoker's novel Dracula.
Directed by Cris McKay (Tomorrow's War), the film will arrive in Italian theaters on May 25, 2023.

In a recent interview with Collider, the director revealed that his Renfield is the direct sequel to the Dracula 1931 starring Bela Lugosi.
In fact, the connection between the two films is suggested in the commercial for Renfield released a few days ago (and which you can find at the bottom of the article). According to McKay, this is not just an homage to Tod Browning's masterpiece but a real clue to the connection between the two films.

In fact, McKay told Collider, "I keep telling the marketing people that this is the only direct sequel. I know that some people might instead say that the sequel is Dracula's Daughter because the opening scene connects to the end of Tod Browning's film, but Bela Lugosi is not present and there are completely different characters... That would be a record: the first sequel made after such a long time since the original“.

Renfield stars Nicholas Hoult (Warm Bodies, Mad Max: Fury Road) and Nicolas Cage (Mandy, The Color Came from Space) as Renfield and Dracula, respectively.
Rounding out the cast are Adrian Martinez, Ben Schwartz, Ben Rouss, Shohreh Aghdashloo (The Exorcism of Emily Rose), Rebecca Quincy, Jenna Kanell, Joshua Mikel, and Caroline Williams.
The screenplay of Renfield is by Ryan Ridley (Rick and Morty) in collaboration with Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead TV series.

Plot: Renfield is completely dependent on Dracula, his master. In addition to carrying out his every order, the young man is also forced to provide him with all the victims the fearsome vampire requires. Now, however, after centuries of servitude, Renfield dreams of a normal life but it will not be easy for him to keep the Prince of Darkness away...
