An interesting Spanish poster of [REC] 4: Apocalypse (Spain - 2014) has been circulating online for a few days now. If in the poster for the third episode the bride Clara (Leticia Dolera) wields a chainsaw, in the poster for the sequel it is Ángela Vidal (Manuela Velasco) who instead wields a huge drill that she will use to defend herself.
To direct [REC] 4: Apocalypse is Jaume Balagueró, the Spanish director who handled the first two chapters of the saga, as well as other notable films such as Fragile and Bed Time (to name just a couple). Balagueró himself co-wrote the screenplay with Manu Díez, a screenwriter who has already collaborated with him on [Rec]².
This fourth chapter reconnects with the first two in the saga by moreover bringing back to the forefront the protagonist played by original actress Manuela Velasco. Television journalist Ángela Vidal survived the terrible events that occurred in the building. The woman is captured and quarantined on a maximum security ship. Despite all precautions, the strange epidemic will spread like wildfire among the military.
[REC] 4: Apocalypse was presented at the Midnight Madness Portion of the Toronto International Film Festival. For now, only the Spanish release date scheduled for October 31 is known.
The cast includes Manuela Velasco (Rec, [Rec]²), María Alfonsa Rosso, Héctor Colomé, Paco Manzanedo, Ismael Fritschi, Críspulo Cabezas, Emilio Buale and Carlos Zabala. Production of the film was handled by Julio Fernández.
The music is by Arnau Bataller.
