Diretto da Jen e Sylvia Soska (American Mary, See No Evil 2), Rabid non è soltanto il remake dell'omonimo film di David Cronenberg. Le due filmmaker hanno lasciato intendere che il loro film include omaggi ad altre opere cinematografiche del celebre regista fra cui Inseparable (1988).
Le Soska infatti hanno reso pubblica la foto dal set in cui compare Heidi von Palleske, l'attrice che ha interpretato Cary in Inseparable (aka Dead Ringers), rivelando inoltre che nel loro remake si darà spazio anche ad un 
triangolo amoroso in cui sono coinvolti due ginecologi gemelli che ricordano Beverly ed Elliot Mantle del film del 1988.
Il remake dell'omonimo body horror di David Cronenberg è attualmente in post-produzione. La release USA del film è prevista nel 2019 mentre è già nota quella relativa all’home video UK. Rabid in fact will be available on DVD and Blu-ray starting March 25, 2019.
The protagonist of the story is Rose (Laura Vandervoort), a young woman who is horribly disfigured after a car accident disfigures her face. In order to regain her lost beauty, the girl will undergo an experimental plastic surgery treatment that will, however, transform her into a bloodthirsty monster, a being that will unleash a devastating pandemic.
In the cast of Rabid figurano Laura Vandervoort (Saw: Legacy), Ben Hollingsworth, Hanneke Talbot (Playing Dead), Mackenzie Gray (Legion), Heidi von Palleske, CM Punk ed A.J. Mendez.
Le Soska hanno anche scritto la sceneggiatura insieme a John Serge.
