Goodbye to Piper Laurie, peseudonym of Rosetta Jacobs. The U.S. actress, nominated for three Academy Awards and winner of a Golden Globe and Emmy Award, has died at age 91. Making the announcement was her manager.
After studying acting, in 1950 he starred in the play I love Luisa desperately by Alexander Hall, and then starring opposite Paul Newman in The braggart (1961), a film through which she earned her first Oscar nomination for her role as an alcoholic.
In 1976 he joined the cast of Carrie - The Look of Satan by Brian De Palma in the celebrated thriller (1976) and where, thanks to her outstanding performance as Margaret White, the psychopathic mother of Carrie (played by Sissy Spacek), she was nominated again for an Oscar for "Best Supporting Actress."
In the 1980s, the actress starred in the miniseries Bramble birds and also in The Promise (1986), earning an Emmy Award for her role. In 1986, with Children of a lesser god, a film that won a Silver Bear in Berlin, for which Piper Laurie was nominated for a third Oscar.
His filmography (which boasts more than 60 films) also includes TV series and films from the 1990s such as Secrets of Twin Peaks and Trauma (1993) by Dario Argento.
In recent years, the actress has worked for many major TV productions such as E.R. - Doctors on the Front Line, Law & Order and Will & Grace. In 2006, however, he made his directorial debut with the short film Property.
