Produced by Mercury Studios, the world's leading studio specializing in music content, the film documents the Back to the Beginning concert held at Villa Park in Birmingham on July 5, 2025. That night, Ozzy Osbourne performed in front of 40,000 people, while 5.8 million fans followed the event around the world. Unable to stand, the singer performed seated on a black throne and took the stage alongside Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward, reuniting the original Black Sabbath lineup for the first time in more than twenty years.
The band performed four songs, closing the set with Paranoid. It would become Ozzy Osbourne's final, emotional farewell concert for his fans. The singer died on July 22, exactly seventeen days after the performance.
Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back To The Beginning revisits the day through the final show, contributions from musicians inspired by the band and behind-the-scenes footage. The event also featured a solo set by Ozzy Osbourne and performances by Alice in Chains, Anthrax, Gojira, Guns N' Roses, Halestorm, Lamb of God, Mastodon, Metallica, Pantera, Rival Sons, Slayer and Tool.
The event was hosted by Jason Momoa, while Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello served as musical director. Guests appearing in the All-Star segments included Billy Corgan, Chad Smith, David Draiman, Jake E. Lee, KK Downing, Nuno Bettencourt, Ronnie Wood, Sammy Hagar, Steven Tyler, Travis Barker and Yungblud.
Designed to deliver an immersive audiovisual experience, Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back To The Beginning aims to place audiences at the heart of the performance, highlighting its intensity, power and sound quality.
The film was directed for the big screen by Ben Wainwright-Pearce, previously involved with Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour and George Michael: The Faith Tour, while Tim van Someren directed the live concert. Jim Parsons, Jamie Silk and Dan Seliger serve as producers.
