It is entitled Over Your Dead Body (Kuime) the new horror film by Takashi Miike, director of such disturbing and unhealthy films as Audition, Ichi the Killer, Three... Extremes and Visitor Q.
Over Your Dead Body (Japan - 2014) is currently in post-production and will premiere at the 39th Toronto International Film Festival to be held Sept. 4-14 in Canada. Japanese theaters, on the other hand, are scheduled for release on August 23, 2014.
The cast includes Ebizo Ichikawa, Ko Shibasaki (The Call), Hideaki Ito, Hitomi Katayama, Miho Nakanishi, Maiko, Ebizô Ichikawa, Toshie Negishi (Audition), Hiroshi Katsuno, and Ikko Furuya. The screenplay is by Kikumi Yamagishi.
Miyuki Goto (Ko Shibasaki) plays Oiwa, the protagonist of Yotsuya Kaidan, the famous Japanese ghost story (known as Ghost story of Yotsuya) based on betrayal, murder, and revenge. Kosuke Hasegawa (Ebizo Ichikawa), Miyuki's lover, plays Iemon. Unfortunately, what happens during the theatrical version between the two characters will also be reflected in reality. Acting blurs with real life and love turns into resentment.
The history of Yotsuya Kaidan dates back to 1825. The play was written by Tsuruya Nanboku IV for the kabuki theater. Miike updates this famous story by making it current.
