Filmed over a period of ten years by the mad English painter David Fleas, Opera Mortem had only one screening in 1973 at Nottingham's Odeon Film Theatre, an event during which several people tragically lost their lives soon after the premiere.
After four decades of oblivion, this extreme surrealist/dadaist/experimental film emerged into the light in 2015 thanks to an Italian collector.
Called "a kind of metaphorical transposition of a black magic ritual" by an occultist, Opera Mortem is a concentration of gruesome content, explicit pornography, gore, crude images, and literary quotations with references to suicide in which the death visions of a suicidal girl merge with those of a necrophilic serial killer.
