More horror films are showing in Italian theaters this month. They are The Substance (Oct. 30), Longlegs and Smile 2 (both on October 31).
Terrifier 3 instead opens exclusively in Italian theaters on Oct. 31 to celebrate Halloween and from Nov. 7 in theaters nationwide.
In addition, the above films are joined by Shining (Oct. 7), Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece is returning to big screen in full 4K, and the cult film Cemetery Man (Oct. 14) by Michele Soavi, in theaters on the occasion of its 30th anniversary.
OCTOBER 7: Shining
Thanks to Lucky Red, Shining (1980) returns to theaters in a 4K remastered version as a special event on Oct. 7-9.
Directed by Stanley Kubrick, Shining is based on Stephen King's novel of the same name and stars Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, and Danny lloyd.
Plot: Jack Torrance, a struggling writer and recovering alcoholic who accepts a position as the off-season caretaker of the Overlook Hotel, an immense hotel in a remote location in the Colorado Rockies. Once he moves in with his family, his son Danny begins to experience visions about the terrible events that occurred in the building while Jack descends into a murderous frenzy.
OCTOBER 14: Cemetery Man
Based on the novel by Tiziano Sclavi, Cemetery Man by Michele Soavi will be released in theaters in a restored version by CG Entertainment in collaboration with Cat People, from Oct. 14, on the occasion of its 30th anniversary.
Francesco Dellamorte (Rupert Everett) is the cemetery caretaker in the small Italian town of Buffalora with his mentally disabled assistant Gnaghi (François Hadji-Lazaro) for company. For obscure reasons, the dead buried there rise up animated by murderous instincts. To kill them, it is necessary to smash their heads, and for Francis it is just a routine act until one day, among the tombstones, he falls in love with a beautiful widow (Anna Falchi). For the cemetery caretaker it will be the beginning of a descent into pain and madness, among the living dead and the dying living.
In the cast of Cemetery Man there are also François Hadji-Lazaro, Barbara Cupisti, Mickey Knox, and Stefano Masciarelli.
The script of the film is by Gianni Romoli while the special effects are by Sergio Stivaletti.
OCTOBER 30: The SubstanceÂ
The Substance is a body horror film written and directed by Coralie Fargeat (Revenge) and starring Demi Moore (The Seventh Prophecy, Striptease).
The film will arrive in Italian theaters on October 30 with I Wonder Pictures.
In The Substance, the former Hollywood actress Elisabeth (Demi Moore) got fired from the aerobics program because she is now in her 50s.
In search of lost youth, she undergoes an experimental rejuvenation session that will create Sue, a younger and more beautiful version of herself, with whom Elizabeth will have to live.
Initially things seem to work out until Sue decides to dominate the situation.
Margaret Qualle (Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood), Dennis Quaid (Beneath the Darkness, The Day After Tomorrow), Hugo Diego Garcia, Oscar Lesage and Gore Abrams also star.
OCTOBER 31: Longlegs
Written and directed by Oz Perkins (February: The Innocence of Evil, Gretel and Hansel), Longlegs stars Maika Monroe (The Fifth Wave, It Follows) and Nicolas Cage (Mandy, The Color Came from Space, Willy's Wonderland), the latter as a ruthless serial killer.
The film will debut in Italian theaters on October 31, distributed by Be Water Film.
The story follows Lee Harker (Maika Monroe), a new FBI agent who has been assigned to an unsolved case of a serial killer. As the investigation becomes more complicated, the young investigator realizes she has a personal connection to the merciless killer and must act quickly to prevent other murders.
In the production of Longlegs there is also Nicolas Cage with his Saturn Films (Pig).
While Alicia Witt (Urban Legend) and Blair Underwood (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) complete the cast.
OCTOBER 31: Smile 2
Smile 2 is the sequel to Smile (USA - 2022), the horror film written and directed by Parker Finn (The Hidebehind, Laura Hasn't Slept).
This new installment on the smile curse is, again, directed by Parker Finn, while the story stars Naomi Scott as a haunted pop star.
Smile 2 will debut in theaters on Oct. 31 distributed by Eagle Pictures.
In the cast there are also Kyle Gallner (Smile), Rosemarie DeWitt, Lukas Gage, Dylan Gelula (Dream Scenario), Raúl Castillo (Army of the Dead) and Miles Gutierrez-Riley (The Wilds).
The story stars Naomi Scott as Skye, a national pop star haunted by the smile curse because of Louis who kills himself in front of her in one of the cruelest ways.
From that moment on, terror will take over her life.
OCTOBER 31: Terrifier 3
Terrifier 3 is the third installment in the slasher splatter/gore saga started in 2016.
Written and directed once again by Damien Leone, Terrifier 3 opens exclusively in Italian theaters on Oct. 31 to celebrate Halloween and from Nov. 7 in theaters nationwide distributed by Midnight Factory.
Produced by Dark Age Cinema Productions, Terrifier 3 stars David Howard Thornton and Lauren LaVera (The Well) as psychopath Art the Clown and heroine Sienna, respectively.
Completing the cast are Chris Jericho, Elliot Fullam, Samantha Scaffidi, Daniel Roebuck, and effects designer Tom Savini (Zombies - 1978, Friday the 13th).
In Terrifier 3, Art the Clown will wreak havoc in Miles County, mercilessly harassing and murdering residents on Christmas Eve.
